In this article, we explain the process of making a roller blind using our assembly table. We won’t be covering the cutting of the fabric or the addition of the mechanism to control the blind.

How roller blinds are made

  1. Place the blind’s barrel and bottom bar in the barrel adapter slots on the table.
  2. Next, place the rolled-up fabric (which has been cut to length) at the back of the assembly table against the alignment fence and unroll the fabric.
  3. Line the fabric up with the first line on the assembly table and activate the air clamp on the table using the switch. The air clamp will secure the blind in place and allow you to work on it without it moving out of position, making the process much easier and reducing waste.
  4. Spray some silicone onto the fabric and use the metal creasing tool to press the blind fabric into the barrel. The silicone helps the tools to glide smoothly along the fabric and create a perfect groove.
  5. Pass over the fabric a second time with the creasing tool, then measure out some fabric locking tape from its dispenser and cut this using the tape cutting punch on the assembly table.
  6. Attach the fabric locking tape, also known as Mylar tape, to the Mylar tape insert tool and thread this through the blind.
  7. Next, use a sharp knife to cut off the excess fabric that is sticking out. Be careful not to press too hard with the knife.
  8. Deactivate the air clamp and lift the blind out of the table. Next, cut off the excess fabric locking tape and ensure the fabric is not overlapping the metal barrel at either end.

Creating the bottom bar

  1. Now that the fabric is securely attached to the barrel, roll the fabric and ensure that it rolls up evenly. If it doesn’t, lightly tap the side of the barrel that is sticking out with a hammer to move it into position.
  2. Then place the blind at the back of the table against the alignment fence.
  3. Unroll the fabric and line it up to the second line on the assembly table and activate the air clamp.
  4. Repeat the process using the creasing tools and fabric locking tape, securing the fabric into the bottom bar.
  5. Cut off the excess blind fabric and then release the air clamp.
  6. Fold the blind over to ensure the fabric covers the metal of the bottom bar and place it back into the slot in the roller blind assembly table.
  7. This time, you’ll create a groove in the fabric without using the air clamp to hold it. That means that you need to use your other hand to hold the fabric still while you use to creasing tool.
  8. Finally, use the fabric locking tape to secure the fabric in the bottom barrel.
  9. Once the bottom bar looks perfect on either end, hammer in the bottom bar end caps.

Please note that the final steps taken will depend on the type of bottom bar and finish you’re creating. If both sides of the bottom bar need to be covered in the blind’s fabric, you’d repeat the steps with the creasing tool and locking tape before adding the end caps.
