We are very excited to introduce our new range of Tara recycled fabrics! The range takes its name from the Tara river, which is one of the world's cleanest rivers. The water is so clean it's safe to drink.

Tara recycled fabrics are made from recycled post-consumer materials that reached the end of their standard life cycle. The materials are collected from general waste and polluted oceans, helping to tackle the severe problem of plastic pollution.

Did you know that experts predict that there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish by 2050? Our new recycled fabrics help to protect one of our most vulnerable ecosystems.

The new recycled blind fabrics reduce carbon emissions while repurposing waste, extending the life of raw materials and reducing the need to produce new fabrics. It takes 9 standard water bottles to make one t-shirt, so you can only begin to imagine the number of bottles that are repurposed to create one of our wide 30-metre rolls of fabric!

Turning plastic into fabric is an incredible process and we are huge fans of sustainable textiles, which is why we are passionate about our new Tara recycled fabrics.

An overview of our recycled fabrics

We have a white-backed blackout fabric, white-backed screen fabric and a dimout recycled fabric in a variety of colours to help you find the perfect environmentally friendly fabric. You can find out more about each product and see the colours available by clicking the links above or visiting our fabric range.

What’s really impressive about these fabrics is that they are just as durable and versatile as standard ones. Each option offers a different level of light control, helping to combat glare, solar heating and UV damage to furniture.

Manufacturing blinds using our recycled fabric will help you reduce your systems' environmental impact. Alternatively, if you purchase made-to-measure blinds, you can specify our recycled fabric. Please speak to your account manager if you'd like to receive a fabric selector.

Recycled blind fabrics vs. normal fabrics

From a visual perspective, you won't tell the difference between a recycled blind fabric and a standard fabric. The difference is completely related to their environmental impacts.

Recycled polyester, often called rPet, is made from recycled plastic bottles. It is a great way to divert plastic from our landfills. The production of recycled polyester requires far fewer resources than that of new fibres and generates fewer carbon emissions.

A big advantage of recycled polyester over virgin polyester is the repurposing of items like plastic bottles, which contaminate the earth and oceans.

Using recycled polyester instead of virgin polyester can lead to significant energy savings (up to 45%) during the fibre production process. Additionally, choosing recycled polyester can result in a 20% reduction in water consumption and 30% less carbon emissions.

Summary

This new range is ideal for architects specifying eco-friendly commercial blinds that reduce the carbon footprint of a commercial project. It’s also a great option for blind installers and manufacturers who have eco-conscious customers.

You can select our Tara fabrics for made-to-measure blinds or order the fabric to manufacture your own sustainable blinds in-house. Either way, the result is a blind that benefits from a lower carbon footprint.
