Supporting the treatment for children at Good Hope Hospital
In January, plans were released to build a new paediatric A&E at Good Hope Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The build aimed to further support their youngest patients, their families and the staff who care for them while also providing more space in the adults A&E.
We know design is hugely important in the healthcare industry, not only to be practical but also to support and aid positive recovery. In June 2021 the doors opened, and we were honoured to have our products specified by Horsley Hube Architects Ltd for this prestigious build.
The new emergency department consists of eight cubicles, a quiet and well-being room, a large waiting area and a dedicated paediatric ambulance entrance and drop-off. For a healthcare setting, privacy and cleanliness are crucial.
Our customer, Just Fabrics supplied and installed products from our anti-ligature YewdaleKestrel® range. Just Fabrics are a long-term customer of Yewdale - we caught up with the Managing Director, Andrew Yarnold to see why he chose to supply and install our products.
“We as a company choose Yewdale as our main supplier of all things blinds, tracking and anti-ligature.
This is because of their expertise, service and wide-ranging products which cover our ever-changing client’s needs.
We partnered up again with Yewdale and the nominated contractor to fulfil the customers brief of creating a safe and highly functional medical space.”

The YewdaleKestrel® products used in the Good Hope Hospital project included the K100 Curtain Divider Track (cubicle tracking) across the ends of the beds to allow for patient privacy, the K6200 Window Curtain Track on all internal windows and door windows facing corridors and the KVL31 Premium profile wand operated vertical blinds with YewdaleDefiant® Dart grey PVC fabric on all of the windows – the wand is designed with user safety in mind and the fabric is easy to clean and hygienic for healthcare settings. Each of these products were fixed with magnets that are designed to break away under excess weight. This ensures the ultimate safety around children and vulnerable service users.
In an article with Birmingham Live, Dr Mistry, Emergency Department Consultant said:
“We are looking forward to being able to work in a superb environment which matches the great level of care we offer our young patients at Good Hope.”
“I’ve worked as a doctor in ED for over 15 years and this new department is one of the most exciting developments I’ve been involved with. It will be of huge benefit to both staff and patients in the local community.”
